The Danish capital Copenhagen has long been known as a “cycling city”. The city is now investing in improving the conditions for the city’s cyclists. The plan is to build 26 routes with so-called “bicycle highways” linking downtown Copenhagen with surrounding towns. This means that the cyclists can maintain high speed without any obstacles in their way. Along the routes there will be service stations in place as well. Behind this initiative stand the Capital and several neighboring municipals in the region. With this investment the initiative takers hope to attract even 15,000 more cyclists which would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 7,000 tons per year.
